Tamil superstar Suriya pays a tribute to Raj Kapoor and Kamal Haasan with his Hindi-Tamil-Telugu trilingual ‘Ezhaam Arivu’, in which he plays a circus artiste.
“It’s been decades since any film set in a circus was made. I can only think of Raj Kapoor saab’s ‘Mera Naam Joker’ and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Appu Raja’. Suriya pays homage to both the actors. His commitment to the project is so complete he not only looks his part he feels as though he’s part of a circus,” said director Murugadoss.
For his role in the film, Suriya has been practising every conceivable circus stunt. He can now walk the trapeze, blow fire out of his mouth and juggle with six balls. In fact, the ball-jugglery has become the favourite part of Suriya’s preparation for his role and he just can’t get enough of it.
“I actually went and stayed with the Great Bombay Circus. Do you know there are only seven-eight circus companies remaining in the country? It’s frightening how popular entertainment like television has ousted its traditional counterpart. I loved learning circus tricks specially jugglery. I don’t want people to think it is special effects.”
Now to prove to his audience that the circus feats they will see him perform on the film are not doctored, Suriya will go public with his skills.
Murugadoss, who’s currently shooting with Suriya at a live circus in Coimbatore, confirms the actor’s plans to hold a public performance of his skill.
“For the last six months Suriya has been trained by a circus veteran who came home to Suriya every day for a couple of hours of practice. Secretly Suriya has been learning all the ropes of being a complete circus artiste. His character is not supposed to specialize in one skill alone.
“Suriya had to learn everything that a circus artiste does. He specially loves the ball juggling. He has mastered juggling six balls simultaneously. He loves performing for his kids and friends,” says the director who last worked with Aamir Khan in ‘Ghajini’.
“Suriya will perform all his circus tricks live on stage at the music-release function for our film. He doesn’t want his fans to think that the stunts they’d see him do in the film are special-effects. He has worked hard to learn the tricks and he wants the audience to appreciate it.”
A.R. Murugadoss’s next project with Suriya and Shruti Haasan, Ezhaam Arivu (which means seventh sense), is said to be a never-seen-before story, loosely based on Leonardo Di Caprico’s yet-to-release Hollywood flick Inception.
Inception is a sci-fi action thriller which revolves around a skilled thief who is an expert in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable.
Ezhaam Arivu is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin under his Red Giants Production banner. Ravi K. Chandran handles the camera and Harris Jayaraj will be the music director. Shruti Haasan will reportedly sing all her songs in the film. The latest buzz is that the film will have only three characters: Suriya, Shruti Haasan and a new villain from Hollywood.
Kollywood’s most bankable hero Suriya’s new flick Ezham Arivu, directed by A.R. Murugadoss with Shruthi Haasan as the female lead, has started rolling in Chennai. The Chennai schedule will be followed by a 25 day schedule in China.
The Suriya-Murugadoss’ last combo was Ghajini, one of the best films in Suriya’s career. Notably, Ezham Arivu is Shruthi Haasan’s first Tamil film as a heroine.
Ravi K. Chandran is handling the cinematography and Anthony will handle editing. Harris Jayaraj has already completed composing the tunes with Na. Muthukumar penning the lyrics.
Rumoured to be a period film, Ezham Arivu is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies and is expected to hit screens by February 2011. This film will also be dubbed in Telugu.
Ezham Arivu is a film which has Surya and Shruthi Haasan in the lead roles is being produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin under the banner Red Giant Films. This science fiction thriller film is to be directed by A R Murugadoss. Harris Jayaraj is composing the film. All the female voice songs will be sung by Shruthi Haasan herself. The shooting of this film was supposed to commence in China in the first week of June. But due to preoccupation of Surya, it is now planned to commence the shooting in Chennai itself. Ravi K Chandran will be handling the camera Director A R Murugadoss while speaking about this film said,” After Ghajini we both are joining for the film Ezham Arivu. There are many expectations among the fans. I am little nervous and scared when I think of this. This responsibility will make us win again. I love Surya. This story which I have created will utilize Surya fully. After release of the film apart from Kollywood and Bollywood, Hollywood will also be taken aback
Suriya has put the super success of ‘Singam’ behind and is ready for Murugadoss film. The first schedule of ‘7am Arivu’ was to happen in China and the unit was gearing to shoot the first song featuring Suriya and Shruthi Haasan in China.
But now some additional dates given by Suriya to Ram Gopal Varma for ‘Raththa Charithiram’ have changed the plan a bit. Ram Gopal Varma wanted to re-shoot some sequences and so Suriya had given additional 15 days to RGV.
As the availability of Suriya was delayed for the China schedule Murugadoss has decided to make the first schedule happen in Chennai and the China trip has been postponed to second schedule.
According to new plan the first shot will be canned in Chennai on June 21. The first schedule in Chennai will involve only Suriya.
It looks like the time of the directors running in the Tamil industry. The filmmakers are trying to beat the actors and attest that their remunerations can also be sky-high.
The successful director A R Murugadoss’s super hit film ‘Ghajini’, Vijayakanth’s ‘Ramana’, ‘Dheena’ have taken the kollywood industry to the top level. But after the tasting the huge success, he is demanding Rs.9 crores to make a movie and even the producers are ready to pay what he wants.
